Celebrating NAAMA Members

NAAMA is proud to share with you and to celebrate the recent accomplishments of 2 of its leaders, Dr Imad Shbeeb, President, 2020-2021, and Dr Wael Sakr, President, 2004-2005.

Please join us in congratulating them as we look always to celebrate our members achievements and services in the medical fields.

Dr. Imad Shbeeb was named the Medical Director of Perioperative Services at Long Beach Medical Center in Long Beach, CA.

“We are honored Dr. Shbeeb assumed this responsibility,” said Ike Mmeje, Chief Operating Officer on Feb 1, 2022. “His leadership and collaboration with our prestigious surgeons, OR teams and executive leaders will continue to ensure and enhance access to outstanding care in this changing environment.” In addition, Dr. Shbeeb continues to serve as the Medical Director, Colorectal Surgery and Chair, Operations at the Todd Cancer Institute at Long Beach Medical Center. He previously served as the Vice Chair, Dept. of General Surgery; Vice Chair of Staff; and Co-Chairman, Vanderbilt Project at Long Beach Medical Center.

Dr. Shbeeb’s responsibilities include to overlook the function of more than 40 procedure rooms, where more than 400 physicians practice in this large medical center { about 417 beds }.

Dr. Wael Saker was named Interim Dean for the School of Medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.

This appointment came on Tuesday March 1st as announcement from the office of the President of Wayne State University. Roy Wilson, MD. In President Wilson’s words “Dr. Sakr is a trusted leader and champion of the School of Medicine. Dr. Sakr has my full support to lead the School of Medicine decisively, and I ask that you give him your support as well.”

In addition to his role as NAAMA National President for the 2004-2005 term, Dr. Sakr served as the president of the American Syrian Arab Cultural Association (ASACA), he also played key leadership roles in other Arab American organizations including ACCESS, and the Arab Division of the International Academy of Pathology. He is considered a key mentor to countless medical students throughout his carrier.
