PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

KEEPING ACTIVE AND MAINTAINING A HEALTHY WEIGHT

1. People Aren’t Active Enough

  • In spite of all the awareness campaigns on the importance of physical activity, people are not exercising enough.
  • Levels of physical activities are decreasing globally, in both the wealthy and developed countries. This decrease plays a main role in the increase of the global obesity rates.
  • The World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommend that adults should exercise for two and a half hours each week to maintain healthy weight. On the other hand, children should exercise at least one hour per day.

2. Regular Exercise

  • Individuals who are overweight must exercise around an hour daily.

Regular exercise helps maintain a healthy weight, lowers blood pressure, and reduces cholesterol.

  • These moderate intensity exercises include Swimming, Tennis, Walking, and Jogging.
  • In addition, people should be engaged in training programs and strength training such as weight lifting at the gym.
