Dr. Raed Al-Naser, MD, FCCP

Dr. Raed Al-Naser proudly serves as the President of the National Arab American Medical Association (NAAMA) for 2025, a role that underscores his unwavering commitment to advancing the organization’s mission. Since joining NAAMA in 1997 during his medical training, Dr. Al-Naser has been an active and dedicated member, contributing to its growth and impact. He played a pivotal role in establishing the San Diego Chapter in 2008 and served as its President from 2020 to 2022. His leadership during this time revitalized the chapter, earning it recognition as a partner of Live Well San Diego by the Board of Supervisors. Following his tenure as chapter president, Dr. Al-Naser served as Secretary of NAAMA’s National Office and has been elected as the National President for 2025.
Dr. Al-Naser’s medical journey began in Irbid, Jordan, where he earned his medical degree from the Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1992. His aspiration for advanced training led him to the United States, where he completed his internal medicine residency and pulmonary-critical care fellowship at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. He began his professional career in Los Angeles before relocating to San Diego in 2006. Currently, Dr. Al-Naser is a key member of the San Diego Critical Care Medical Group and serves on the medical staff at Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, California. In 2013, he established his own pulmonary practice, further solidifying his commitment to serving the San Diego community.
Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Al-Naser has consistently demonstrated his passion for health equity and cultural advocacy. He has been a strong advocate for health equity within the Arab American community, championing efforts to achieve recognition as a distinct ethnic group on the U.S. Census. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he contributed significantly to the San Diego County COVID-19 Equity Task Force and the Medical Society Inclusion and Diversity Committee. His insights and expertise have been featured in national media outlets, including USA Today, CNN, and NPR.
Dr. Al-Naser’s involvement in NAAMA extends to numerous leadership roles and initiatives. He co-chaired the 2021 Irvine National Convention and served as the Scientific Co-Chair for the 2023 National Convention in San Diego, widely regarded as one of the organization’s most successful events. These experiences have provided him with invaluable insights and equipped him to guide NAAMA toward a vibrant and inclusive future.
As NAAMA’s President, Dr. Al-Naser envisions strengthening the organization through strategic initiatives. He aims to engage with educational institutions and medical schools, fostering mentorship opportunities and organizing events to connect aspiring healthcare professionals. By leveraging digital platforms and social media, he plans to enhance networking and information-sharing opportunities within the NAAMA community. Additionally, he is committed to rebuilding trust with former members through open communication, transparency, and tangible improvements.
Dr. Al-Naser’s dedication extends beyond his professional life. A proud advocate of his Arab heritage, he cherishes Arabic music and art and enjoys traveling with his family to immerse himself in different cultures. A devoted soccer enthusiast, he passionately follows his favorite teams and players.
In reflecting on his journey, Dr. Al-Naser remains deeply humbled by the opportunities he has had to serve. He is steadfast in his commitment to advancing healthcare, supporting his community, and fostering meaningful connections that inspire positive change.
